A member asked:

Why would the psychiatrist want to see my mom as well as me during her sessions. is it because she needs more information and doesn't know what to do?

Family support: When someone is suffering a mental illness, family members can often provide helpful information and observations. Sometimes the patient is unable to provide a reliable history, and family members know this information. Also, family members are important supports for a person in treatment. Psychiatrists may want to meet family to answer questions & relieve anxieties, if possible.

More info can help: Getting information from other family members can provide important information. You have to agree, it is your choice to allow familt members to provide information or participate in your treatment.
