A member asked:

The baseline pressure in my eye is 28. with one eye drop, the pressure is reduced to 20; the target number is 18. would a second drop need to be added to get to the target number?

Eyedrop directions: The target number for pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure) is usually 18. High values could be due to glaucoma. Glaucoma can be treated with eye drops which lower the pressure in the eye. The most important thing is the follow the directions on the medication bottle. Do not add extra drops unless prescribed by your eye doctor. The medication may take several weeks to be fully effective.

Talk to your Dr. 1st: Talk to your dr. And follow their recommendation! each of the medications used as an eye drop to treat glaucoma has the potential for having side effects. These side effects may be serious, or they may be barely noticeable, and result in decreased vision, discomfort, or redness. If the interval between taking the same eye drop is either too short or too long, its effectiveness will be reduced.

Maybe: You can increase the effect of the drop by 1. Not blinking rapidly after it is instilled; instead gently close your eye; and by 2. Placing your finger in the corner of your eye by the nose and applying gentle pressure for three minutes. This will likely get your pressure to 18 or less.

After what time...: Medication unknown, and the time on it unknown. Quite difficult to say. If on a glaucoma med for 1 month, i believe the achievable reduction should have been met. You may need two drops of (whatever).
