Idiopathic: Idiopathic means that the cause is not known, and this is the case for most people with uveitis.

Ideopathic: Most laboratory workups for uveitis do not reveal a cause of the inflammation. This is a fine example of the limitations we as practitioners face when trying to determine the cause of a disease process. Sometimes test that were negative during a previous workup are positive later.

Most common: Uveitis uncommonly is associated with systemic illness and/or conditions reflected in blood tests. Most have no associated factors of these types. We do not know in most cases what the cause of uveitis is Fortunately treatment by your ophthalmologist is usually quite effective.
