Checkup and cleaning: For someone so young, i can only suspect that it's been a while since your last cleaning. Think of the gums, like a muscle that hasn't been exercised in a long time. When finally worked out, it goes thru a soreness. Your gums are similar- and when your gums bleed easily its your body's way of telling you that you should be brushing and flossing more not less. And, of course, get to your dentist.

See dentist: The gums being sore and bleeding could be as simple as having gingivitis. There are numerous other causes for pain in jaw, teeth or gums. Some are serious. See a dentist for a professional cleaning and exam to start to correct your problem.

Soft Brush in Circle: 1) use a soft manual toothbrush. 2) place the brush where the teeth and the gum join together. 3) move the brush in circles. 4) do all teeth this way on the face side and the tongue side. 5) initially the gum may bleed because you are cleaning out an open sore, however this bleeding will stop and the tissue will now begin to heal. 6) follow up with a water pik spraying water in circles same places.

Professional cleanin: Bleeding caused by gingival irritation. At your age, you most likely would need a professional dental cleaning and good oral hygiene regimen at home. Bleeding should subside or disappear altogether.

The dentist and you: While you might have other dental problems also, what you describe are the classical signs of periodontal (gum) disease. Bleeding is not normal and indicated inflammation and\or infection of you gums. Hopefully these are the early stages of gum disease known as gingivitis and easily corrected with professional cleanings and better oral hygiene (tooth brushing and flossing). Make an appointment.
