Yuk!: Three issues here. First, who didn't throw the toothbrush out right away? Second, you can catch other things as well from the contaminated toothbrush but i would be overly concerned. Third, if you have bleeding gums you need to see a dentist as that is an indication of periodontal (gum) problems which will only get worse over time. A short term illness gets better, while lost teeth is a lifetime.
