Chronic Pain: Oxycontin is a sustained release, long acting product containing the narcotic oxycodone. It is a synthetic opioid pain "killer" that is used to treat severe chronic pain. It should not be used as a first line defense against chronic pain, but when more conservative options fail, and a patient's underlying pathology and pain level warrent it, Oxycontin can offer better control of painful symtoms.
