Hemorrhoids: If you're young and otherwise healthy, constipation can bring on hemorrhoids (piles) and bleeding. If, after increasing your fruits and veggies, water intake, and fiber, you're still constipated, make sure you see your doctor to get a check. Sometimes banding or surgery is necessary. Best of luck!

Prevention: It is important not to get hemorrhoids in the first place. Stay well hydrated (at least 8 - 8 oz glasses of water per day). Eat 5 vegetable & 4 fruit servings per day – get that fiber in. Avoid junk carbohydrates. Stay physically active. Preparation h is one of a # of otc meds to reduce itching & pain & laxatives can also help.
