One very encouraged option is to see the PCP or Gastroenterologist as soon as one can. The differential diagnosis is much and a hands-on Doctor visit will help clarify issues and options for treatment/management.

If you have the urge but can't move your bowels, work from below by inserting a dulcolax suppository or administer a fleets enema gently. If you have no urge, take a mild bowel stimulant like senokotS or milk or magnesia according to instructions. If your bowels don't normalize after drinking fluids& increasing fiber intake, a colonoscopy is recommended. Consult a gastroenterologist.

Try glycerine suppositories to get some prompt relief. But long term cut out caffeine and alcohol and increase fluids to 80-100 ounces per day , more if you exercise. Eat healthy but be careful not to overdose on fiber as this could make constipation worse.
