For patients with cad , if carotid ultrasound imaging came out normal, do you need cta of the neck. can this wait. when do you actually needs it.

Good screening test: Carotid ultrasound is a good screening test for atherosclerosis of the carotid arteries in the neck. To evaluate inside the head, cta or mra of the head would be needed.

Not usually: If the carotid duplex ultrasound imaging is normal and the patient is a symptomatic i would not suggest cta. Sometimes the calcium defeats the ultrasound and cta or angio may be necessary.

No: If us normal you probably do not need cta unless you are having symptoms or have greater than 70% stenosis.
