A member asked:

On 15mg mirtazapine for 1 yr. upped to 30 for past 6 nites with increased severe anxiety episodes. is this a side effect and does it normally subside?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not sure. : The sedative effect of Mirtazapine is based mostly on its impact on histamine receptors, and sometimes even a low dose of it will almost saturate those receptors. Doubling the dose doesn't simply double this effect but rather changes the drug's receptor profile. This usually leads to improvement with depression and/or anxiety, but i could imagine having your outcome. Talk to your doctor.
