Weightlifting is an anaerobic activity. This means that it is a short term high intensity activity during which the oxygen intake does not meet the needs of the muscles exercising. Anaerobic exercise is excellent for building strength and creating muscle mass. Other activities like running, swimming, biking are aerobic and are more beneficial to cardiovascular health.
