? shoe fit: Numbness is a sign of nerve dysfunction which in your case sounds temporary. This can be due to a local nerve irritation, nerve irritation more proximally (back) or in some cases an exertional compartment syndrome. If it persists seek evaluation. You may try modifying your hiking shoes as a first step.
