Depression: In addition to the professional treatment you're receiving, there are also many things you can do on our own to help fight depression. You can make sure you exercise at least 30 min per day, and eat a healthy diet of whole (not processed foods) -- veggies, fruits, and low-glycemic carbs. You can stay away from alcohol, and connect w/others. Being an atheist does not inhibit recovery.

Religion not needed: Most effective therapies for depression--and there are several--are nonreligious. If you've been with the same therapist for 6 months or longer with no change, it's time for a frank talk about whether this form to treatment is working. Check out nami.Org for a broad overview of options. Depression can make you want to give up. Don't! keep looking till you find something that helps.

I don't know what it means, but the fact that you stated it means it is important to you. Physical, emotional & spiritual health go hand in hand & their balance is important. This may be an area that merits further exploration. There are many ways to define higher power.
