YES YES YES: Smoking for years leads to white areas on tongue or cheek (leukoplakia) that is precancerous almost always.

Watch it closely: Most premalignant lesions do not progress to invasive cancer, but keep a close eye on this -- follow-up biopsies for any changes are likely -- and your vigilance may well save your life.
