See a doctor...: Heartburn is very common. If symptoms are persistent for months at a time and/or cannot be relieved with dietary or lifestyle changes then it will be necessary to see a gastroenterologist and endoscopy may be needed to further evaluate. If you have not tried taking anything, then start with otc acid suppressive medications (e.g. Tums, zantac, (ranitidine) prilosec).
