A member asked:

Bad chest pain, tightness, pressure, burning.gi said not gerd,on strong ppi.chest ct &ekg clear, but pain is almost constant & times the pain is like a severe spasm & its excruciating. could they miss something in my heart like coronary artery spasm?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

I think recurrent esophageal spasm is more likely than recurrent coronary artery spasm but both can be confused with each other. Try to identify triggers of symptoms. Sucking on peppermint lozenges may relax the esophagus. I've seen relief swallowing water. What does the gastroenterologist feel about possible esophageal spasms? Certain calcium channel blockers can prevent coronary artery spasms.
