What test are needed for a kidney lesion to make sure it isnt cancer.

Depends: A radiologist may be able to certify it as benign based on images (benign cysts are extremely common), or may do some dye studies. You have a right to find out from your physician what's the appropriate workup for your mass, and whether biopsy or some other means of getting tissue is in order.
