It depends: Some clinics are more sensitive to the possibility that an infection could potentially be HIV infection. Often you will be told (or asked) if someone is thinking about doing an HIV test. If you are concerned, it is ok to request a test. The cdc recommends that everyone (teenagers through adults) gets tested for HIV so don't be shy.
