A member asked:

My partner second line in hiv self test was faint and we have unprotected sex. the clinic says i shouldnt contract it as the virus isnt very visible in her blood as yet so want to confirm this?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Virus is never “visible in her blood.” Partner needs a 4th generation HIV test at 30 days (and perhaps a 2nd test at 90 days to be absolutely certain). In the meantime, if you develop symptoms resembling mononucleosis (feverish, lymph node swelling, sore throat, rash, etc) have your partner and you get tested immediately
