No: Ganglions are fluid filled cysts connected to joints. They can vary in size and generally are not painful. However when they are compressed by forceful wrist motion they can be quite painful, and may even press enough that you feel like the whole wrist is swollen. As long as your hand remains pink, the circulation is ok. Sounds like the cyst may need to come out. See your doctor.

No: Ganglions do not invade blood supply. They can increase in size and apply pressure to adjacent structures, hence pain and/or tinglin if pressure is applied to a nerve. If function is severely affected in your estimation then have it surgically excised.
