Antibiotics: The standard treatment is antibiotics. Flagyl or vancomycin by mouth. Some strains respond better to a combination of oral and iv. Fecal transplants are not fda approved.

Effective therapy: The fda approved meds for c diff infection are vancomycin per oral and fidaxomicin. Fecal transplant is an established ( though not mainstream) method of restoring balance of normal flora in the colon in situations where there is not enough present to restore itself. The latest newengland journal of medicine article describes an important study showing its significant effectiveness
