Yes but: Transplant is rarely done for CML these days if somone is responding well to treatment. CML is one of the success stories in cancer and we now have different therapies. Transplant is indicated when people fail to respond treatment or if they have specific resistant mutations. Age is important in deciding who to transplant but no one would take somebody off treatment that is working to do transplan.

CML & transplant: You need to have therapeutic failure to tyrosine kinase inhibitors (gleevec, nilotinib, dasatinib) to be considered for sct (stem cell transplant). Age wise sct can be done upto age 70 in patients who have good end organ functions and physically fit. In most cases, results of these oral drugs are so impressive that sct is falling out of favor as it can have serious side effects & morbidity.

No need: For transplant presently. It can performed upto age 65 or 70 but extremely effective drugs are decreasing the need for transplant.
