A member asked:

I have pcos is it wise for me to have a complete histerectomy because of later health risks?

Pcos: Just on the diagnosis alone does not warrant a hysterectomy. Especially since you are still young. Hysterectomies are done for a number of reasons such as cancer, excessive bleeding, etc. Pcos for the most part can be handled comfortably with medical management alone (ocp, metformin, spironolactone, etc).

Not necessarily : Pcos is a disease of Insulin resistance and elevated testosterone. This does not benefit from hysterectomy if there are not other reasons. The cysts found in pcos are generally small and are not painful.

Probably not: At your age it would likely be most appropriate to conserve your ovaries. You need the estrogen to be healthier in the long run.
