Possibly not: Boils are often caused by staphylococcus aureus (a bacteria) and most strains of this may be resistant to amoxicillin. If you have fever you should be seen by a doctor asap, and possibly somebody other than the one who gave you amoxicillin. The fever can also be from the amoxicillin, but no way to know without seeing you. Go soon. If this is staph and spreading, could be serious.

MRSA: If your treatment requires antibiotics, your doctor may select a different one that has coverage for MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus), such as doxycyline, clindamycin, or bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). Usually 5-7 days of therapy is sufficient for a boil, but duration of treatment should be tailored to clinical improvement.
