No: Most people who have sore throat and cough have a viral infection, for which antibiotics offer no benefit. In the case of strep throat, Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is overkill: penicillin or Amoxicillin are enough. In the case of bacterial pneumonia, there are more appropriate antibiotics than augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate).

Depends: Most of the time cough and sore throat are caused by viral infections and do not require and antibiotic. In some cases of bacterial bronchitis which would be associated with symptoms like cough, purulent phelgm production, maybe fever, Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) would potentially cover the germs causing this.
