Strengthen: The best exercises would be closed chain exercises ( those where your feet are always in contact with the surface of machine) for strengthening both the quadriceps and hamstrings. Also stretching both muscle groups to improve your rom before surgery.

Gentle: Walking, stationary bike with the seat up high, slow swimming with a flutter kick. Avoid squats, twisting, lunges.
