Not "dangerous": It may hurt like heck to have a torn meniscus, and it may occasionally flip in and out of position. You could probably get by with relative knee immobilization just fine. We often wait a month or two to allow some healing to occur on its own -- no biggie, except for the hassle-factor...

Arthroscopy: Many times knee problems can be resolved by arthroscopic knee surgery. With this procedure, only small incisions are made to perform the procedure. This makes recovery quicker and easier. I would ask your orthopedic surgeon if this is an option in your situation. Otherwise, you will probably be rather uncomfortable til your knee is treated. It should not be dangerous to wait, mainly uncomfortable.
