A doctor has provided 1 answer

See a doctor!: Coughing up blood (hemoptysis) is always a worrisome sign, and should be checked asap by a physician or health care provider. While at his age, and non-smoking status, cancer is less likely, many other conditions including bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis and other diseases may cause blood in sputum. Online advice is not a substitute for a good history, physical examination, xrays and labs.
