Vitamins: Vitamins are simple and can help to reduce the severity and occurrence of these pesky beasts. Taking vitamin e, c, and b6 by mouth each day will help. And lysine has been shown to be very effective as well. Your poor mouth had gotten used to being accosted and shouldn't take long to normalize. Be strong it will be worth the work!

Cold Sores: Cold sores generally occur when people are under stress - like trying to stop smoking. It may not be the patches that are causing the outbreaks as much as the stress of quitting. Your dentist or physician can prescribe medication to prevent/reduce the outbreaks and would be glad to help in your quest to stop smoking.

Try lysine tablets: Supplement your diet with an Amino Acid called l-lysine. Take 1000mg a day, if you feel a tingle like with the onset of a sore take 3000mg for three days. Keep a food journal and see if foods like tomatoes, wheat, peanut butter or walnuts are eaten around the time you get the sores.
