Its the NICOTINE: That's why ..the cardiac effects of cigarettes stop immediately and the cardiac "risks" can be eliminated completely by quitting! Its the CANCER effects you avoid by avoiding cigarettes....(due to the TAR etc) The patches continue the Cardiac risks....but should be used for a LIMITED PERIOD OF TIME until withdrawal is complete! Hope this helps PS Same for VAPOR CIGS!

Nicotine constricts: While there might be a little cross-over, in general nicotine causes the vascular effects including constriction of blood vessels, & tars/other chemicals contribute carcinogens, promoting cancer. So in using the patch, you still get the effects of nicotine (hopefully at a lower dose than a cigarette) but are spared the hundreds of other chemicals. Go ahead & use the patches ... but get off ASAP!
