Many possibilities..: Many questions arise. Some are...Did a dentist operate on it? Was it biopsied? Its color? Its location? What medications? We as dentists see a gamut of different "ulcers" in the mouth and to diagnose without definitive tests is difficult. I would suggest a repeat visit to the dentist and ask for a referral to an oral surgeon who can biopsy the area. It is not fun having something so painful.

Insufficient info: Rather than have us try to guess what you have and why, i think that you should see an oral surgeon to determine what you have and what can be done to remedy the solution. If necessary, go to another oral surgeon or a dental school or hospital based dental residency program.
