Yes --in moderation: Poppy seeds are really more nutritious and less allergic than many other seeds. While they are an oilseed from the poppy plant and will result in a positive test for opium in the urine, the results and effects will not the be the same as for those who truly abuse opium. In an old seinfeld episode, elaine tested positive after regularly eating poppy seed bagels. Very funny!

Yes: We try to avoid feeding a little kid any product with loose seeds that they might inhale. Those can lead to recurrent pneumonia that is hard to understand/treat. These may require us to look into their airways and retrieve the seed. I don't feed kids any loose seed like products (including popcorn) until they are old enough to tell me they got some down their windpipe.
