Too soon for VDRL: It takes up to 6 weeks for the VDRL test to become positive, so your negative result does not rule out syphilis. However, syphilis is rare these days in most heterosexual populations in the US. Herpes is the most common cause of genital ulceration. But if your doctor strongly suspects syphilis, you should be treated for it now, without waiting for blood test to be positive. Good luck.
