Skip pills: Instead of relying on pills, increase your exercise, improve your diet, and get more sun. This works as well if not better than supplements.

Not regulated: Supplements touted to help with depression are St John's Wort and Omega 3 fatty acids. St John's Wort has proven efficacy, but it is NOT regulated by the FDA (no supplements are), so potency and quality are of concern. Research on Omega 3's as research is inconsistent, and improvements observed tend to be extremely small. Better to invest effort/money in therapy, exercise, and FDA approved meds.
