In usa is it considered best practice to pull wisdom teeth without sedation?

No: Patients are typically given the option to use IV sedation anesthesia or local (novacaine) anesthesia. It is the patietns choice. It is about a 50/50 split of IV sedation and local anesthesia.

No best practice: There is no best or right way. Everyone is different. Some are fine with only local anesthesia, others benefit from also having "laughing gas" (sweet air) and some prefer to be "put out" with IV sedation. "best" is based upon you and your surgeon agreeing on methods to use. Discuss this issue with the dentist who will be treating you.

Depends: There are a variety of sedation techniques utilized, including oral, nitrous oxide/oxygen, IV conscious sedation, and general anesthesia. Whether or not you are sedated, as well as the type of sedation offered, may depend on who performs your surgery, the anticipated difficulty of your surgery, your anxiety level and physical health, as well as your personal preference.
