Yes and No: You should be fine to brush your teeth before general anesthesia - in fact it is probably a good thing to do. You should stay away from the smoking since it raises your blood pressure and can affect multiple things. In either case though, the best thing to do is to call surgeon's office or the anestheseoligist's office and ask their advice to be certain.

Yes: Brush your teeth : proper hygiene is not only good for you, but it shows respect for the medical team. Yes, smoke: nicotine is an anxiolytic and will keep you calm and make your pain management easier. Old anesthesia teachings told patients to stop smoking before general anesthesia. Unless you stop for > 6 weeks there is no great pulmonary benefit. A calm patient trumps an anxious patient.

Yes, but.: Using a tooth brush is no problem. Please do not swallow the toothpaste. I would prefer that you not smoke on the morning of surgery. However, if you have to do it just let your anesthesiologist know.
