A member asked:

I wanted to know when you get your teeth cleaned do they use anesthesia(novocaine)?

Generally not.: Unless you have very sensitive teeth and/or gums, there isn't really a need for local or topical anesthetics for routine dental cleaning. Children or developmentally delayed patients may require sedation or anesthesia for routine dental procedures.
