Is it better to get general anesthesia when i get my wisdom teeth pulled?

It depends on you: Better if you don't want to remember anything from the treatment. Not better if you are not so much concerned about remembering and concerned about the additional fees for sedation.

Depends: If is more of a question of what is more comfortable for you. If you are very anxious and do not want to be aware of what is going on, then a general anesthesia would be preferable. Generally a IV sedation is used, so you are not totally out but enough to not be aware of the procedure.

Varies: The use of general anesthesia will depend on your surgeon. Many times conscious sedation will cross over into general anesthesia for brief periods due to varied reactions from each patient. However, most oral surgeons can accomplish successful removal without needing full general anesthesia. Make sure to ask your surgeon about what he will use on you and how it will affect you.

Talk to Dentist: Most teeth extractions can be done under local anesthesia with a cooperative patient. If there are especially impacted teeth then some sedation might be indicated. I don't even remember the procedure after a little dose of valium. If you have concerns please contact your dentist and discuss these fears with him. Good luck.

Depends: The best type of sedation and/or anesthesia, whether IV or a general is the one that is the safest, providing a comfortable procedure for you, and one that you and your surgeon feel comfortable with. General anesthesia is an option offered by many oral surgeons for their patients. With some patients who have some significant management problems, a general anesthetic may be the safest option.
