Please suggest important questions to ask my doctor if i have diabetes.

Ask: Ask about diabetic shoe coverage if you have had a foot ulcer, or have corns and calluses.

If: If you have tingling, burning, numbness or other odd sensations in your feet, ask about neuropathy.

Are: Are my numbers at goal? Is it time to go on to drug #2 or drug #3 in order to get in control?

Know: Know your latest hemoglobin a1c (the lower, the better).

Take: Take your socks and shoes off so your doctor can look at your feet at every visit.

Diabetes: Diabetes is one of the leading causes of blindness so ask to see an eye doc.

Make: Make sure your eye doctor sends your diabetes doctor a report on your dilated exam.

Diabetics: Diabetics carry a higher risk of heart disease; ask your doctor about preventive strategies.

Should: Should a diabetic check blood sugars before & after exercise?

What: What is my a1c? What kinds of foods should I eat? What kind of exercise? What meds do I need?

Know: Know your a1c, blood pressure, and cholesterol. And know what your target values are for each.

Acarbose: Acarbose works by slowing certain enzymes that break down food to release glucose. Ask doc if it's ok!

Ask: Ask your doctor to recommend the best endocrinologist they know, and then ask for a referral.

Excessive: Excessive thirst and frequent urination are warning signs for diabetes. Have blood sugar checked.

Ask: Ask about how your diabetes and oral health are connected. Very important to know this.

Nutrition,: Nutrition, exercise, healthy living plan, what to expect, how to avoid major complications.

Ask: Ask if your kidneys have been checked for protein loss in the urine. This is an early sign of damage.

What's: What's my aic? Do I have retinopathy, neuropathy or kidney problems? What's a good blood sugar reading?

Ask: Ask to see an endocrinologist. Diabetes care changes fast and many pcps are not up on all options.

What's: What's my current aic & kidney function? Do I have any signs of heart, eye, kidney or nerve problems?
