Consider tubes: Ear tubes (tympanostomy tubes) may be a good option for you. Tube insertion usually requires about ten minutes of general anesthesia and is done as an outpatient procedure. Risks are low but do include ear drainage and a hole in the eardrum (which can be patched. Of course, ear infections themselves can cause holes). I allow the children i operate on to swim, i prefer them to wear ear plugs.
