A member asked:

Can i request to have a blood transfusion if i have low iron?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Low iron: Blood transfusion carries signifcant risks such as bad allergic reactions, infection (hiv, hepatitis b and c, "mad cow disease", malaria, chagas disease, etc.), and even death. It's not worth it, especially given how easy it is to correct iron deficiency with either oral or IV iron, if one's anemia isn't severe or symptomatic.
