Only if prescribed: Swollen lymph nodes need to be checked, depends what part of the body is involved and what is the cause if your doctor feels the the glands are infected and prescribe amoxicillin, than you may take it and for the full course if you have infectioius mononucleosis and take amoxicillin, it can give you a rash and there are other conditions which can cause swollen glands and antibiotics are not indicate.

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria, viruses, cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is well.
