Low iron: Low iron can be caused by inadequate intake, poor absorption of what's taken in, or excessive loss (through menstrual or gastrointestinal blood loss). Any general medicine doctor can make the diagnosis with a simple blood test. Whether you need to see a gastroenterologist afterwards to rule out GI bleeding depends on your age and medical history.
