Viral infections: Are commonly causing thyroid inflammation with autoimmune causes common as well. There is also postpartum thyroiditis following delivery. Some other times thyroid disease is running in the family and goiter or thyroid enlargement is frequent as a chronic thyroid condition. Endocrinologists specialize in diagnosis and treatment of thyroid disorders, among others and you may benefit from seeing one.
