Unproven, and . . .: It would be surgical tourism since this doctor practices in vienna. Though stem cells are now available, and fat grafting to the breast is possible and controversial (results no bigger than 1 cup size, some dead fat causes calcifications and can interfere with cancer detection or mimic cancer on mammogram), this is far from mainstream. See abps-certified plastic surgeon and get implants! please!

Early experience: The use of stem cells for breast augmentation is promising but the long term data is not available and the risks are unknown. Five to 10 year results in fat transfer are encouraging. However, follow up care will be difficult and if you have questions or concerns, how will this be managed from chicago if surgery is performed elsewhere?

Experimental: Stem cells have not been proven to increase the percentage of fat cells that survive in a fat transfer. Be very careful with anyone offering improved results on procedures that have not been proven. Fat grafting to the breast has very unique risks that need to be further studied before it becomes widely available.

Possibly even harmfu: There is a small but real possibility that stem cell enriched fat transfers can increase the growth rate of cancers if present. Fat alone is sufficient.

Stem cells = hype: At this point, stem cell surgery is really in its infancy and not at the point where we can reliability make any guarantees as to its long term efficacy. Breast augmentation using stem cells will likely become an important procedure as we learn how to perform this technique. But at this time, it is experimental (at best) and less reliable than breast implant surgery.

= fat injections: Great idea but still in evolution. Multiple surgeries to get maybe a cup size increase. Oil cysts, potentially confusing mammograms, many possible unknowns so far. If you don't want implants, by all means do not get them, but ask a lot of questions before you lie down on the table for this. I am all for fat injections, but for reconstructive purposes only in the breasts as of yet.
