Vaporizer, saline : Vaporizers put out visible water vapor, humidifiers add water to the air, but at a lower concentration. There are plug in products, that add only the scent of vicks, but don't increase humidity. Higher humidity=less congestion. Put vaporizer next to child, put saline drops/spray in nostril to reduce congestion, then suction, blow nose, or sinus wash. Hope she feels better soon.

Age ??: Early infancy is marked by marked sensitivity to irritants & dependence on narrow nasal passages for breathing. Later childhood employs mouth breathing to bypass much of the congestion. I hate Vicks steam& consider it air pollution. A lifestyle audit to eliminate any odors/irritants in a kids sleeping area + humidity or steam as long as the measured humidity <50% + nasal saline wash all help.
