It's : It's very uncommon to do a septoplasty at that young of an age. It's important to be evaluated by an otolaryngologist (ENT) to fully assess what is causing the congestion. There may be other things going on besides the septum. We usually wait until about 14-16 years of age to do nasal surgery in girls. This mainly relates to wanting the nasal growth to stabilize.

In : In very young people like your daughter I have done nasal surgery following a significant injury with a broken nose or in patients who have severe nasal obstruction. The operative word is "severe". If all medical treatments have been attempted without success, surgery may be appropriate. We prefer to wait until puberty is complete, about age 15-16 for a young lady.

You : You are making a judgement before having all the answers. First have your daughter evaluated by an ENT specialist, who is good with kids. He or she will then advise as to what to do next. Good luck from nyc. For more info visit www.Drgrossman.Com.
