Depends: Depends on the cause of the spaces. Spaces between teeth can be caused by severe gum disease, pathology or unerupted teeth. Once these issues are addressed (if present) then you can consider braces. See a dentist.

Yes: When you say your teeth are not "straight, " i assume you mean they are not in allignment with the teeth next to them. Sometimes, by straightening the teeth (ie. Flaring them back or forward), those spaces between teeth can disappear. The only way to adjust the position of teeth to a desired position is to have orthodontics placed on the teeth. You need braces to move teeth.

Teeth Gaps: Can also indicate a possible TMJ problem, tongue thrusting habit, and airway problem. If they do exist, these conditions has to be addressed to have a better prognosis and prevent bad relapse after orthodontic treatment.

Yes: Your description sounds like a situation that would best be treated with orthodontics. There are many good reasons to have braces placed on your teeth, in addition to improving your appearance.

Up to you: Sounds like you are not happy with your smile. Braces can help correct these issues for a lifetime. So need? Hard to say. Should you get them based on your question? I would say yes.

Seek consultation: If you are concerned about the way your teeth fit, function, and look, an orthodontic consultation is in order. An orthodontic specialist can evaluate your problems, address your concerns, and inform you if orthodontic treatment would enhance function, stability, and esthetics. Go ask an orthodontist.

Personal choice: It does sound like braces could help straighten your teeth and close the gaps, but as to wether you NEED beaches is a personal choice. If the current look of you teeth bothers you than see an orthodontist fir an evaluation. If it doesn't bother you than leave it alone. Only you can answer that question.
