No: Most patients experience no pain during and after routine extractions.

Doesn't have to.: Extractions can be done under local anesthetic ("novocaine") or sedation (most commonly in an oral surgeon's office) and so it doesn't hurt while being done. Afterward, ant pain is managed with painkillers such as Ibuprofen or percoset and sometimes a corticosteroid (decadron). If you worry less and just relax, you will be fine!
