A member asked:

Is it possible to stabilize a "loose/unsteady" adult tooth or must it always get extracted?

Depends...: Depends why it's loose. If it was due to trauma, a dentist can stabilize it while it heals. However, for most other reasons, the prognosis might be poor and extraction may be necessary.

Depends...: ...On your long term dental health goals. With the advent of implant dentistry, extracting the tooth, prevents further deterioration of the supporting bone structures and may allow you a fighting chance to have the tooth replaced with an implant. A loose tooth will always be associated with inflammation of the complex assembly that supports the tooth in it's socket too.
